Whatever your experiences are with this combo, mainly the Startech IDE2SAT2 + Samsung SDG-605B (Ver. B).
Many lower capacity drives have been tested without issue, would love to get to the bottom of this mystery.

::Possible Reported Issues::

Founchki — 5/16/23
Error 7 on boot

Toxic_Tripod0 — 4/17/24
dvd drive will be busy on first boot
meaning it will not read discs at all
on stock bios it will just not read the disc
on xbmc4gamers it will give a disc busy error
restarting the console fixes the issues
the problem only happens on first boot
you can even bypass the issue on first boot by starting the console with the disc inside and it will load the game before the dashboard boots
you can also bypass the issue on first boot by going to xblast os first then booting cerbios or stock dashboard from there

Regarding problems with StarTech+Samsung B drives

In an Xbox 1.0 + openxenium (Prometheos) + StarTech + CT1000MX500SSD (1TB) + SDG-605B environment, there was no problem loading the game disc from the dashboard at the first startup even with UDMA5 .6 (verified by xbmc4gamers and unleashx)
Although it is not fully verified, I will write it down as a memorandum.

i tried cerb 2.3.1 udma 2/5 and m8v16 again without dashloader just loading unleashx from C evoxdash.xbe
also experimented with both loading and skipping over XOS, aswell as unplugging the console to do entirely cold boots
still no issues

XBOX #1
Xbox Version: 1.4
IDE Adapter: Startech IDE2SAT2, 80 pin cable
DVD Drive model: Samsung  revB
revB fw=x010
BIOS: Cerbios 2.4.2
UDMA Version: UDMA 0 Auto
HDD or SSD + size: Samsung SSD 840 500GB
Dashboard: XBMC
This will boot just fine to XBMC but will not play anything off the DVD. DVD drive is recognized as Region 0, other properties remain BUSY. In dashboard disc will load and PLAY button becomes active, but pressing it kicks back to the dashboard. If I exchange the SSD for the stock HDD or a WD HDD cloned from the SSD, the DVD also works!

XBOX #2
Xbox Version: 1.4
IDE Adapter: China adapter 1 and 4
DVD Drive model: Samsung  revA
revA fw=x204
BIOS: Cerbios 2.3.1
UDMA Version: UDMA 2
HDD or SSD + size: WD HDD WD2000 200GB
Dashboard: XBMC
This seems to work fine. moving the DVD drive to the other XBOX #1 does not work on any IDE adapter. Moving the HDD to XBOX #1 does seem to function properly
The prob here seems to be the SSD on my new 1.4 motherboard. My previous mobo had a broken controller 2 and I couldn't fix the traces.

Ok I think I've gained some real traction here, not completely solved it yet. All stemmed from my want to disable autoboot to disc if one is inserted. I edited the config file with "DriveSetup = 1" and placed in the root of C:. I think whatever else I did with that combination of config file, Cerbios beta, and cerbios.ini prevented it from booting correctly or reading the disc. I've put my Samsung revA drive into my Xenium machine with the Startech adapter. How would I configure those files above to work correctly, use UDMA 5 or 6, be able to boot games, but NOT autoboot if disc is inserted? I feel like you can only disable autoboot with the cerbios.ini file flag, but this is what prevented disc boot altogether...

Finally some results using a 4TB drive

Xbox Version: 1.6A
    IDE Adaptor: Startech IDE2SAT2 Rev.2
    DVD Drive model: Samsung B
    SDG-605B/MSX 6RDW215060 F/W=x010
    H/W:001 Ver.B Feb 2003
    Modchip: OX on PromOS 1.5
    BIOS: Cerb 2.4.2
    UDMA: 6, 2
    Storage Type / Size: WD40EZAX - WD Blue - 4TB HDD (CMR)
    Dashboard: Unleash X (.39.0528A Build 584) AKA "Rocky5 Patch"
    Notes: Dashloader
No issues (i had the game come up as data once but shrug)
^this is foreshadowing read below

so i tried again after unplugging the console, and skipping PromOS.
And i got this
so 100% cold boot

Drive doesnt say busy, but game only reads as unknown
opening an app and going back doesnt fix it as claimed
soft reboot doesnt fix it
shutdown and loading bios through promos gives intended behavior
cold boot doesnt seem to matter, but loading bios from PromOS seems to entirely negate the issue

i shutdown, restart with power button to skip prom
reads as unknown
shutdown load bios from prom os game reads
UDMA 2 or 6 seems to make no difference
Same behavior on EVO X M8 1.6
but it cant read my f partition bc of cluster size so theres that

Testing to see if XATA exhibits the same issues

Xbox Version: 1.6A
    IDE Adaptor: Nemesis XATA
    DVD Drive model: Samsung B
    SDG-605B/MSX 6RDW215060 F/W=x010
    H/W:001 Ver.B Feb 2003
    Modchip: OX on PromOS 1.5
    BIOS: Cerb 2.4.2 , evoxm8_1.6
    UDMA: 6, 2
    Storage Type / Size: WD40EZAX - WD Blue - 4TB HDD (CMR)
    Dashboard: Unleash X (.39.0528A Build 584) AKA "Rocky5 Patch"
    Notes: Dashloader
Exact same behavior as the Startech IDE2SAT2 in beginning of this post
this seems to imply its a issue inherent in the Chipset they share

Two more tests using a 1.2

Xbox Version: 1.2
    IDE Adaptor: Startech IDE2SAT2 Rev.2
    DVD Drive model: Samsung B
    SDG-605B/MSX 6RDW215060 F/W=x010
    H/W:001 Ver.B Feb 2003
    Modchip: TSOP
    BIOS: Cerb 2.4.2
    UDMA: 6, 2
    Storage Type / Size: WD5000AAKS - Caviar Blue - 500GB HDD
    Dashboard: Unleash X (.39.0528A Build 584) AKA "Rocky5 Patch"
    Notes: Dash in C "Evoxdash.xbe"
Game wont load if inserted after cold boot, game shows as unknown
after soft reboot then inserting game, will read fine
Cold boot with game already in the drive game loads

Xbox Version: 1.2
    IDE Adaptor: Startech IDE2SAT2 Rev.2
    DVD Drive model: Samsung B
    SDG-605B/MSX 6RDW215060 F/W=x010
    H/W:001 Ver.B Feb 2003
    Modchip: TSOP
    BIOS: Cerb 2.4.2
    UDMA: 6, 2
Storage Type / Size: Samsung 870 Evo - 1TB SSD
    Dashboard: Unleash X (.39.0528A Build 584) AKA "Rocky5 Patch"
Notes: Dash in C "Evoxdash.xbe" and dashloader
No issues

Has anyone ever actually had this issue with an ssd?
i think they maybe immune

BIOS: Cerbios 2.4.2
UDMA Version (if applicable): tested 0,2
HDD or SSD + size: 500GB Seagate Barracuda
Dashboard: Evox 3935

did not work, I had to set legacy mode because of error 11

"I just installed the startech converter and does not boot. It reports error 11 dvd not found. I tried every jumper configuration but no luck. The cerbios ini has UDMA  2 for both hdd and dvd and I am using 80 wire cable. If i swap back the hdd it works with the IDE drive and the same 80 cable"

*Maintainer note - noizer's IDE2SAT2 (above) has a different sticker and does not id itself as a REV2*
Adapter below is mine *Friendo* has different markings and ids itself as Rev2, possibly other differences?
Both boards are marked A1062-00D in bottom right corner
