IDE to Sata Adapter compatibility thread

To use a IDE to Sata adapter you will need a 80 wire IDE cable.

Red Startech Adapter:

• Supports UDMA6
• There are reports that the adapter can have problems if paired with the version B of the samsung DVD drive.

 

Blue Startech Adapter:

• Reported to be working  with UDMA4, everything higher is reported to be unstable.
• You can't use an dvd drive with this adapter

 

Delock 62510:

• Supports UDMA5 (UDMA6 not tested)
• Cheaper than the startech adapter.
• No problems reported

 

Delock 61702:

• Supports UDMA6
• EOL but you can find them new on ebay
• No problems reported

 

Renkforce RF-4886682:

• Supports UDMA5 (UDMA6 not tested)
• No problems reported

 

China Adapter 1:

• Supports up to UDMA4 (Stable)
• Tests did show it can support UDMA5 when there is no dvd drive attached. 
• How to identify: 2 big caps and writing jp103-5 or RXD-629A7-7 on them

Please take note that there are varius version of these which are look all almost the same. The JP103-5 is the best one. All others are missing 2 resistors which makes them boot very slow. 
If you add a resistor to R4 (0603 - 101) and one to RH1 (0603 - 103) you lower the boot time and they work like the JP103-5. You can save up to 30 sec on boot which are reportet.

You COULD also replace the cheap caps with 470uf 25v caps but that not realy needed. 

 

China adapter 2:

• Supports up to UDMA4
• Does not boot when UDMA5 is used
• You can't use an dvd drive with this adapter

 

China adapter 3 (Not recommended to use):

• This adaptor makes the xbox boot real slow (around 50/51 seconds) and sometimes won't boot at all if used together with a dvd drive. Boot times are better when you don't connect the DVD drive.
• Not tested with UDMA higher than UDMA2. Edit: Reported to Support UDMA6.
• The the build quality can be vastly differently on each one.

China adapter 4 (Not recommended to use):

• The WLXKG-863B adapters are NOT recommended!
• Reported as unstable

 

China adapter 5 (Not recommended to use):

• The HXSP-0908 adapters are NOT recommended!
• Only works with UDMA2
• This adaptor doesn't have a jumper to set master/slave/cable select. This version can only be used without dvd drive.

 

DIGITUS-DS-33151:

• Does not work, don't waste your money on this adapter

RXD-629A7-7 often have very shoddy soldering/splatter around the data/power solder points. Make sure you clean them up!

Would love to see the Tripp Lite P937-000 from Digikey tested, though I see the power connector would get in the way of a 3.5" HDD so I'm not sure how viable it is.

The Tripp Lite P937-000 uses a JM chipset so I would assume it will not perfome that well. And price..... Between 20 - 38 Freedom Pesetas.

Someone has reported this as working with UDMA5 on cerbios, similar to China Adaptor 2, just slightly different model number, ymmv

Just found a box with a few RXD-629A7-7 in them. They all seem to NOT be missing the resistors.

Don't seem to like UDMA4 all that much tho...

I will reflow the soldering on these later on before anyone pulls me on it

sometimes it are the caps that has been out of spec on these that cause they don't work as expected.

All generic china adapters are a gamble tbh

I usually ONLY use Startech but as a already had these I thought I'd take a look at them.

In which way did you notice yours don't like UDMA4? I have a few XBOXES running of the same adapter in UDMA5 and haven't noticed any issues.

In the way that the console didn't boot properly and Cerbios showed an error screen about incorrect UDMA modes. 

The cheapo adapters are hit and miss, always have been, always will be.

I have a 1.4 w/ an X3 and a StarTech paired with a Sammy ver. B  and got the #11 error on boot. If I reboot a couple of times it would initialize and continue to boot into Cerbios. So I put in a green adapter bought online from OGXBox, it works great with UDMA5. So I put the StarTech in my 1.6 OX box with a Sammy ver. A, guess what it does the same as the ver. B in the 1.4 box, When I shut off and restart (usually twice), it fires up and recognizes the DVD drive in Cerbios. So for me it t's not just the ver. B that has an issue, but 2 versions of the Sammy's.
